Savannah Incense – Usage & Storage Guide

At Savannah Incense, we want you to experience the full depth and beauty of natural incense. Proper burning and storage will ensure you get the best scent, cleanest burn, and longest-lasting fragrance.

How to Burn Incense Properly

  1. Choose a Heat-Resistant Holder

    • Always place your incense in a stable, fireproof incense holder.
    • Make sure it’s positioned on a non-flammable surface, away from curtains, papers, or anything that could catch fire.
  2. Light the Incense Stick

    • Hold the tip of the incense stick at a slight angle and light it with a match or lighter.
    • Let it burn for about 5–10 seconds, then gently blow out the flame.
  3. Let the Incense Smolder

    • The tip should glow red and release fragrant smoke.
    • If it goes out too quickly, relight it and allow a longer burn before blowing it out.
  4. Enjoy the Aroma

    • Place the incense in a well-ventilated space and allow the scent to develop naturally.
    • Avoid directly inhaling the smoke and ensure fresh air circulation.
  5. Extinguishing Incense

    • If you need to put it out early, press the burning tip into sand, soil, or a fireproof dish to safely stop the ember.
    • Do not use water, as this can cause the stick to smolder instead of fully extinguishing.

Best Practices for Storing Incense

To keep your incense fresh and fragrant, proper storage is key.

1. Keep It in a Cool, Dry Place

  • Humidity can cause incense to absorb moisture, making it harder to burn evenly.
  • Avoid storing incense in bathrooms or damp areas.

2. Store in an Airtight Container

  • Natural incense contains essential oils and resins that can evaporate over time.
  • Using a sealed glass jar, tin, or resealable pouch helps retain its fragrance for longer.

3. Avoid Direct Sunlight

  • Prolonged exposure to sunlight can break down natural ingredients and fade the scent.
  • Keep incense in a shaded drawer, cupboard, or box.

4. Separate Strong Scents

  • If you store multiple incense varieties, keep them in separate containers.
  • Stronger scents like frankincense and myrrh can overpower delicate floral or woody blends if stored together.

5. Use Within 6–12 Months for Best Quality

  • While incense doesn’t "expire," its fragrance may weaken over time.
  • To enjoy the full depth of the aroma, use it within a year of purchase.

By following these usage and storage tips, you’ll ensure that each stick of Savannah Incense burns beautifully and maintains its full, natural aroma. If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out—we’re always happy to help!
